Propane system concerns

Recognize propane concerns and choose the safe next step

You smell propane inside or outside the RV
No appliances will light on propane
Furnace, water heater, or stove flame is weak or yellow
Tank is full but nothing is getting propane
Regulator icing over during use
OPD valve won't open or won't close
Failed a state or campground propane inspection
Propane detector alarm going off
Two propane cylinders mounted on a travel trailer tongue
When propane appliances stop working, the supply connections and regulator need checking along with the appliances. Tank level alone does not explain every loss of service.

Check the propane supply behind appliance problems

If an appliance will not operate on propane, the cause may be in the appliance or its supply. We evaluate the relevant equipment and connections rather than assuming that the appliance itself needs replacement.

Fixed propane tank and service fittings inside a motorhome compartment
This fixed motorhome propane tank has service fittings and connections that need attention along with the appliances it supplies. A visual inspection is the starting point; appropriate leak testing is needed to evaluate the connected system.
Three burner propane range and oven inside an RV
A burner that will not light or maintain a steady flame may have an appliance or gas supply problem. Checking whether other propane appliances are affected helps narrow the diagnosis.

If you smell propane or suspect an active leak, leave the RV and move to a safe distance. Avoid flames and electrical switches. Call 911 or your propane supplier from a safe location; arrange routine service after the immediate hazard has been addressed.

How the visit works

Understand the repair and the safety checks

1

Tell us the symptom

Call or fill out the form. Describe the issue. If you smell propane, tell us that immediately so we can prioritize the visit.

2

Diagnostic and written estimate

Technician runs a manometer test on the whole system, identifies the failed component, and writes an estimate covering parts, labor, and timing before any repair begins.

3

Approved work and verified leak test

The repair happens, and then the entire system gets a leak-down test to confirm integrity before we leave. Documentation available on request. 30 day workmanship warranty.

Common questions.

Who will actually be working on my RV?

An RV Service Now employee arrives in a company vehicle and works directly with our service team. Tell your advisor about the RV and the work you need so we can match the visit to the right technician. Certificates of insurance are available on request.

My propane detector keeps alarming. Is that a real leak?

Treat a propane alarm as a potential leak and move everyone to a safe location. Contact emergency services or your propane supplier from a safe distance. After the immediate hazard is addressed, arrange an evaluation of the system and detector rather than assuming a false alarm.

Nothing lights on propane. Is my tank empty or is something broken?

Several supply or component issues can prevent appliances from operating. A technician should assess the system and confirm the cause before parts are replaced. If you smell gas or suspect a leak, move to safety and contact emergency services.

Can you certify the system after a repair?

Yes. Every repair we do ends with a certified leak-down test, and we can provide documentation. Some campgrounds, some insurance policies, and some RV resale situations require this documentation.

Do I need to be there for the visit?

Not necessarily. Propane repairs are typically done outside the RV, and if you can leave access to the tank compartment and the appliance bays, we can work while you're not on site. We'll call before we start and after we finish.

What about propane tank replacement?

DOT-spec RV cylinders (the removable kind on trailers and motorhomes) are on a certification schedule and must be recertified or replaced when they age out. We can inspect, order replacements, and swap them at your RV.

Do you handle warranty and extended service contract claims for propane systems?

We can help with diagnostic documentation and provider authorization. Coverage depends on your contract and the cause of failure. Share the contract before approving claim-related work, and see our claims service for the process.
