Mobile RV Refrigerator Repair

Help with an RV refrigerator that is not keeping food cold

If cooling has become unreliable, an error appears or the refrigerator stops on one power source, tell us what changed. We diagnose absorption, residential and 12 volt refrigerators at your RV and explain whether the findings point to a repair or replacement.

What we hear from RV owners

Cooling and power problems

✓ Won't cool on gas, electric, or either
✓ Freezer works but fresh side is warm
✓ Ammonia smell at the back of the unit
✓ Yellow-stained cooling coils behind the exterior panel
✓ Fault code on the control board
✓ Won't light on LP or keeps kicking off gas
✓ Runs but only cools well when the RV is level
✓ Newer 12V compressor unit throwing a low-voltage fault
✓ Door won't seal, gasket compressed, or interior sweating
✓ Ice building on the fins or dripping into the interior
✓ Residential fridge in a Class A tripping the inverter

A refrigerator that warms up while traveling needs its power supply checked along with the appliance. The repair depends on why cooling stops, not simply on the refrigerator's age.

Finding the cause of poor refrigerator cooling

Door closure, temperature, power supply and service access all matter. The check should match the installed refrigerator and the reported problem.

RV refrigerator with its lower door open
Cooling complaints need an operating check, including temperature, power supply and door closure.
Open refrigerator and freezer compartments inside an RV
Whether the freezer, refrigerator or both have warmed up helps narrow the cooling diagnosis.
Rear access compartment of an RV absorption refrigerator
Rear service access allows inspection of the refrigerator's connections and equipment, beyond what is visible inside the cabinet.
Panel front refrigerator in a motorhome with the upper doors open
Door alignment, seals and installation access matter when investigating poor cooling. The visible cabinet front is only the starting point for the service check.

What we service

Choose the next step based on the cooling diagnosis

Absorption, 12 volt compressor and residential refrigerators need different diagnostic approaches. Tell us the refrigerator model, which power sources you use and when cooling stops. We check the refrigerator and its supporting power or propane supply before recommending parts.

Absorption Diagnostic & Repair

Cooling-unit inspection, control-board and thermistor testing, LP burner and orifice service, ventilation and stack cleaning, roof-vent fan diagnosis, thermal-fuse work, and thermal-monitor kit installation on recall units.

Cooling-Unit Replacement

If the cooling unit has failed, we compare a suitable cooling unit replacement with a complete refrigerator replacement. Cabinet condition, parts availability and total cost help determine the recommendation.

12V Compressor & Residential Service

Diagnostic and repair on Dometic DMC, Furrion, and Norcold 12V compressor units, plus residential Samsung, GE, and Whirlpool fridges running on inverter power in Class A and Class C motorhomes. Power supply, compressor, thermistor, and control-board work.

How the visit works

From diagnosis to an approved repair

1

Free written service estimate

You tell us the refrigerator make/model and what it's doing. We quote the visit in writing so you know the number before we schedule.

2

Diagnosis at your RV

An RV Service Now technician arrives, reads the panel, tests the unit on both power sources, and identifies the fault.

3

Repair estimate, then the fix

After diagnosis, we provide a repair estimate covering parts and labor. Your advisor confirms parts availability and timing, and repairs proceed with your approval.

Why this matters here

Check installation and power as well as the refrigerator

We evaluate ventilation, installation requirements and the available power sources along with the refrigerator itself. That helps distinguish a refrigerator fault from a problem with the systems supporting it.

The estimate explains what we found and the proposed repair.

Common questions.

Who will actually be working on my RV?

An RV Service Now employee arrives in a company vehicle and works directly with our service team. Tell your advisor about the RV and the work you need so we can match the visit to the right technician. Certificates of insurance are available on request.

Do I need to replace the whole refrigerator, or just the cooling unit?

We compare the refrigerator's condition, the failed component, available parts and total repair cost. Cooling unit replacement may be an option on a suitable absorption refrigerator, but it is not the right repair for every failure.

My fridge won't cool on gas but works on electric. What's the fix?

We test the equipment on its available operating modes and inspect the relevant supply, controls and components. The difference between gas and electric operation helps guide the diagnosis.

What's the yellow stain behind the fridge?

Stop using the refrigerator and arrange a professional evaluation if you find unusual residue or smell ammonia. We can assess the cooling unit and explain repair or replacement options.

Should I convert my absorption fridge to a 12V compressor unit?

A conversion requires a review of cabinet fit, ventilation, battery capacity, charging and the way you camp. We compare a suitable replacement with repairing the existing unit before you decide.

Do you install thermal-monitor kits on Dometic and Norcold recall units?

Share the refrigerator model, serial number and any recall notice. We can discuss the required service and coordinate the appropriate next step with the manufacturer before work is scheduled.

My residential fridge is fine on shore but shuts off when I switch to inverter. What's wrong?

Usually inverter capacity or a weak battery bank, not the fridge. Residential compressors have a startup surge that a marginal inverter or a tired battery bank can't hold up under. We test the inverter under load, check battery state, and identify whether the fridge is fine or the power supply behind it is the real problem.

Can you work on my refrigerator at a campground or storage lot?

Yes. Driveway, storage lot, campground, resort. Wherever the RV is parked. We arrive in a fully stocked service van.
